Well, the winter weather is really upon us, but here’s a warm idea – the Kit-Han-Ne Region brunch at Lenape Heights Golf Clubhouse on Valentine’s day, Sunday, February 14, 2010. This is not a meeting, but rather a gathering of friends spending a few hours of cold weather toward warmer weather for the coming car season. Figure $13 a person including dessert, plus drinks and tip. Children under 6 are free and children 6 to 12 are ½ price. We’re reserved for 12:30 PM – the brunch runs from 10 AM until 2 PM. Please communicate in some way so we know how many to expect and reserve for – we’ve tentatively reserved for 20.
Included with this newsletter is your Region membership list and contact information. Please treat this information as confidential to protect the privacy of your fellow club members. Please use caution in email communications – obvious concerns about unintended electronically-transmitted diseases – please check with someone first before you email them something.
The Cadet and our cruises did quite well in the Crusin’ Times Magazine poll. The Cadet received “Best Drive-in Restaurant” from John Shapiro, Editor and Publisher, Cruisin’ Times Magazine, #2 in top 10 bi-weekly cruise-ins, #2 in top 10 Best Eateries, and #5 in top 10 Best Burger. So, we can expect some Ohioans to make the trip east this summer to check out what this Cadet is all about. Additionally, George Morda has joined the Tourist Bureau, so that will promote the Cadet and the cruises.
So, what about the Cadet? Well, the latest is that Sheetz is going in and George tells us that we have a good 5 years yet at the Cadet, then that part of the property will transform into a hotel of some sort. So, we need to make a strong 5 of the coming 5 years. John Shapiro says, “Do commemorative coffee cups. Do a five year special collection of dash plaques in a count down mode – make the dash plaques highly desired collectibles.” John is a great promotional ideas man. Back to Sheetz – it will create a new driveway into the Cadet – up higher on the road from the light, about across from the Trader Horn driveway and then down around the backside, behind the present “Cadet Park” to the Cadet. This roadway will also be used as the entry to the Sheetz from the highway. Also, once into the Cadet parking area, there will be a roadway along the present curb from the highway for traffic between the Cadet and Sheetz. The Cadet loses turf from the light pole (with the concrete stones and ivy) and on eastward including the car wash and Cadet Park being gone to Sheetz.
So, we lose some cruise spaces. In the spring, I’d like to have some volunteers to clean up the west side of the Cadet so that we have a chance to get 100 cars in there even after losing the spaces up towards the Sheetz.
I realize that is George’s responsibility, but we need to make the cruises successful for our club also. During cruises, we’ll need to encourage people to fill in on the west side of the Cadet. Limiting the cruises to 100 cars may be considered in order to ‘create demand’ and get a good ‘fill’.
The old Region by-laws have been un-earthed, copied and distributed with this mailing to the committee to review and comment upon. That group will update the bylaws and we’ll vote on them early in this new year.
Our first 2010 meeting will be Wednesday, February 24th, weather permitting (remember – garage season), at Teresa’s Royal Allegheny. Dinner at 6 PM and meeting at 7 PM. This is the time for planning and preparing.
Please go to the club website and see all of the neat stuff that Bill has done with it.
Hope to see lots of you at the Lenape Valentine’s Day Brunch!
