Well, we've moved into the monsoon season, a good time for a free car wash, so that means that cruise season is close.
The Anything on Wheels Swap Meet at the Worthington fire hall had about 18 vendors and a good number of shoppers on a beautiful Saturday.
Our first cruise is Wednesday, May 15, from 4 to 8 PM. We'll start setup at 2 PM, so please try to be there. We'll have 100 dash plaques and door prizes. We will need goody bag items. At the meeting on Wednesday, April 24th, I'll try to get a list of what jobs members want to perform at the cruise.
The informal car cruise for the Kittanning Care Center is Saturday, June 22, with a rain date of Saturday, June 29. The cruise will be 2 ½ hours total. I'll update the information as I get it.
Another cruise you might want to add to your calendar - Saturday, June 15, downtown Ford City. We do not have details yet - nothing on carcruises.com yet. As we get information, we'll forward it. Also, take a look at the Cook Forest Country Inn cruise on Sunday, June 9th, Vowinckel, PA - just over an hour drive from Kittanning. They have a breakfast buffet from 9 AM to 12:30 PM.
We will be taking an Ohio trip to the Packard Museum summer meet, Mary Yoder's Amish Restaurant, an Amish cheese shop and the End of the Commons in Mesopotamia. This is a two hour drive, each way. We'll set a date at the Wednesday, April 24th club meeting.
Our club picnic will again be at Boyd and Patty Baker's farm in Upper Boggsville, PA, on Saturday, August 17th. This is a good time and we've always had great weather - old cars parked on the lawn. As always, we invite other local car clubs to join us for this picnic. Our club will provide the meat, pop and waters, buns, condiments and plates/utensils. Members will be asked to bring a covered dish. We always have too much food, and we sure have a good time.
On Sunday, June 23rd , the Camp Sherwin YMCA in the Westlake area of Erie, PA, is hosting a car cruise. The Keystone Kruisers and the Kit-Han-Ne Car Club typically help with this very successful event. Last year, Bill and Sue Johnson won the drawing for this year's dash plaque car, so you'll receive a dash plaque of their 1959 Triumph TR3a by participating in this event, and, your car could be on their 2014 dash plaque if you win this year's dash plaque drawing. We leave from the McDonald's Park and Ride at 9 AM, stop for a buffet breakfast along the way, help with and enjoy the cruise - then, on the way home, we stop at the Cracker Barrel at Meadeville. Some of us, with gas-guzzling, belch-fire V-8's, also fill up at the gas stations around the Cracker Barrel. Please consider coming along for this enjoyable day trip - don't forget your camera.
Please be thinking of day trips or over-nighters that you would like to take with the club. We need to set dates and places now, as summer schedules conflict quickly. One planned day trip, so far, is to McConnel's Mill Park and then an early evening stop at the Fairground Market cruise on 422 - that day trip will be on a Sunday that the Fairground Market has their monthly cruise - just need to pick a Sunday. This will be an afternoon into evening event. The Fairground Market is a caterer and they cater their own event - typically a $10 buffet that is worth way more than $10 - a 'must' stop as one of the priorities of this car hobby is food stops.
Our next club meeting is Wednesday, April 24, at the Cabin Greens Golf Course on Ford City Road. Dinner at 6 PM, meeting at 7 PM. Please try to attend - see you there.
