August 2011
Even with the hot weather at our July 20th Cadet Cruise, we had 72 cars show up. We had lots of water and offered a shade tent for participants. It was a hot one. Doug Boyer did present the first issue of the Doug Boyer Car collection Participant’s Choice Trophy to Ed Cassesse for his 1968 Yenko Camaro – a beautiful car that garnered many votes for the night.
The Ford City Heritage Days Cruise went really well – two blocks full of great cars. We hope this event returns each year. Other recent cruises that went real well was the Kittanning Crime Watch Cruise, Keystone Kruisers Annual Worthington Cruise and the Kalmar Relay for Life Cruise.
After two rainouts, a 3rd try for Lernerville Nostalgia Night will be this Friday, 8/12/11.
Only 3 Cadet Cruises left for the season – two in August (Wednesday, 8/17/11 and Wednesday, 8/31/11) and one in September (Wednesday, 9/21/11). The September cruise will have KDKA present with a tent with events & prizes and the cruise will benefit C.A.M.P. – Community Action Mentoring Program. Each of these cruises will have participant’s choice voting for a Doug Boyer Car Collection Trophy.
Setup for all 3 cruises will be the same as in the recent past – we’ll start at 2 PM, but the trailer will be there a little earlier – please come and help if you can. We can also use goody bag items – the water bottles went over really well – thanks!
The club picnic is Saturday, August 20th at Boyd and Patty Baker’s home at 5 PM. The club will provide the meat, buns and pop. Please bring a covered dish to share with the group. We’ll have a campfire in the evening with hot dogs and smores (no calories!) Directions – from Kittanning/Ford City – expressway 28 south to the Slate Lick exit, right turn onto old route 28 north toward Slate Lick. Count left turn roads until you get to the 3rd left turn (Sarver Road), turn left onto it, travel to the third left turn road on Sarver Road – that road will be Furnace Run Road – it is a left turn in a sharp horseshoe bend to the right. Travel Furnace Run Road to the top of the hill to the third driveway to the left – brick entry – white fence and red out-buildings. Also GPS it – 242 Furnace Run Road, Freeport, PA.
The Lincoln Highway over-nighter trip is September 10th/11th (Saturday/Sunday). It will include a stop at the restored Bedford Springs Hotel (we’ll be staying at the Shawnee Motel as we did in the past), Gravity Hill and a few other sites. The itinerary will be presented at the August 24th club meeting. Plan the dates in your calendar now so that we can get rooms reserved.
You can still make your reservations for the Medieval Feast, Riverside Inn, October 29th. 1-800-956-9490. $205 per couple for your room, the show, the dinner and breakfast the next morning.
The TP Tool trip will be on Saturday, October 15th with dinner in Boardman at O’Charleys.
We elect officers at our October meeting, so anyone interested in one of the 4 positions, please let me know. All members will be contacted and a slate of those running for the positions will be announced at the September 28th meeting.
Our next meeting, at Pizza “N” Stuff, 325 South Jefferson Street, Kittanning, will be Wednesday evening, August 24th. Dinner at 6 PM, meeting at 7 PM.
Thank you!
