It's the middle of December and all through the garage, the cars are all tucked away. Not a creature is stirring – not even a mouse in the car's upholstery and ventilation hoses. Bobbi is busy planning next year and Jorn is kicked back drinking a beer. The end.
We had a real good turnout at our fall banquet at Cabin Greens Golf Course. The food was excellent as always and Jackie Rupp did a great job on the flowers, again, this year – they were beautiful – Thank you Jackie!. There were some ambitious racers that tried out the Remco Big Wheel hot rod race game and won some prizes.
Bobbi Williamson, treasurer, has sent for our 2014 AACA membership cards – they should arrive sometime in January 2015.
After New Years, when you're sitting at home with nothing much to do, remember that our first meeting will be Wednesday, March 25th. Please think of day and/or overnight trips you would like to take. There is word that we may be invited to do a concurrent car cruise, downtown Kittanning, at the same time as the Father's Day motorcycle event put on by the fire company.
An interesting 'day trip', but with mid/late evening return trip, could be a Wednesday cruise to the Lincoln Highway Heritage Corridor (LHHC) Museum, half way between Latrobe and Ligonier (1.5 hour drive, each way) on historic route 30. Every Wednesday afternoon/evening, they have an open event with food vendors, artisans, music and some old cars (not a cruise-in type event – this is not about the cars, but about the music and food). It is 'paid parking' (fundraiser for the museum), low cost around $2/car, and the old cars get the preferred parking in the paved lot along the highway. Another way to do this would be a longer day with 'air, rail, and car' museum visits, all 3 museums within 7 miles along route 30, and the 3rd, the car one, would be this event at the LHHC museum. For more information, you can look up LHHC at LHHC.org. If there is interest in such an event, we can put a plan and 'package' together.
And, as always, we need goody bag items and giveaways for the coming year's cruises – if you have some connections, please try them out.
If you're looking for a mid-winter event, try the Cook Forest Country Inn Car-less Cruise on Sunday, February 22nd, 2015, 1 to 5PM. Up route 66 to the Vowinckle Hotel and make a right turn and go back ¼ mile to the Cook Forest Country Inn. It is a fun event, with good food at the Inn. Typically, people bring pictures of their cruise car and post them on the display table – there are prizes to be won also.
If you have a change in your address, phone number or email address, please inform Bill Johnson so that he can update the roster – Bill Johnson, 707 Butler Road, Kittanning, PA 16201.
See you on March 25th at Cabin Greens for the first meeting of 2015.
MERRY CHRISTMAS and HAPPY NEW YEAR!
