July 2012
Cruises are a tough job with days in the 90’s, both for event organizers and for participants, yet July is a busy cruise month.
The Cadet cruise on Wednesday, June 16, was a hot one and folks still turned out with a strong showing. Thank you all for supporting this monthly event!
If you missed the Heritage Days Cruise, July 6th, in downtown Ford City, you missed another great, hot cruise. There were 134 cars and drivers (and their passengers) that braved the heat. Downtown Ford City was alive and vibrant. The Kit-Han-Ne Car Club assisted the Heritage Days Committee with the cruise by providing parkers, direction-givers, goody-bag hander-outers, DJ and music and other tasks. Thanks go out to club members that signed up and helped in the heat – and thanks go out to all other volunteers and participants. Roy and Bobbi Williamson had their beautiful new (old) 35 Ford Roadster there. Tim and Linda Mills had their excellent Mustang there also. Numerous other club cars were there also. Jorn and I had our highly-collectible 1995 GMC ex-Ryder Rentals box truck there, complete with tents, speakers, music equipment, laptop, speaker stands, wire, bungy cords, chairs and so forth (at least it has a nice Cadillac gold crest license plate on the front). The 50/50 winner , drawn at 9PM, pulled in over $500. The Beatle impersonators were great – we shut down the pre-show music at 7:30 and they started up for two sets for the night. Joe Klink and the Heritage Days Committee did a great job – thank you!
We have Kalmar’s 75th anniversary Relay for Life Cruise on Thursday evening, July 12th. This year is different – rather than a Saturday cruise, we’re going to try for a Thursday evening cruise – 4 PM to 8 PM. Same location – the used car lot at Kalmar Motors, Route 66, Leechburg. Many added features for this cruise. Again, if you can help out, please be there about 2 hours early for setup (2PM to 4PM). Again, thank you!
Saturday, July 28th is the Crime Watch Cruise at Riverview Park in Kittanning from 1 to 5PM. Our club is also assisting with that event. Setup is from 11AM to 1PM. We’ll need the same kind of help as we had at Ford city – parkers, direction-givers, and so forth. We’ll do the music and 50/50 also. Crime Watch will have a participant $100 give-away every hour. We will have more information at the next car club meeting – Wednesday, July 25th.
Our club has been invited to the Rodfathers of Butler picnic on the south shore of Moraine State Park – Saturday, August 11 – noon to 6PM. They’ll provide entertainment – you bring a picnic lunch for your party.
The Kit-Han-Ne club picnic will be at the Boyd and Patty Baker farm in Upper Boggsville, Saturday, August 18th. We’ll set the time and menu at our next club meeting. Boyd does have a lot of hamburger running around on the hoof. We had a great event there last year – one of the events was getting the Bakers’ AACA award-winning 55 Ford Crown Victoria running – sort of a ‘working picnic’.
Remember to make your reservations at the Riverside Inn – October 26th and 27th. The 26th is the murder mystery and the 27th is the Medival Feast and Halloween party. You can choose one or the other day, or both days. The cost for one night is $209 and two nights is $399. This is a couples cost and it includes your room, dinner and the show, and breakfast. Saturday, you can spend time in Cambridge Springs (some antique shops) or Erie. Call 1-800-956-9490 for reservations and let them know you’re with the Kit-Han-Ne Car club group under the name Bobbi Jensen. The 12 available rooms are blocked until July 31st.
Our Wednesday, July 25th meeting will be at Cabin Greens Golf Course – 361 Ford City Road – a little south of Cadogan and just beyond McVille toward Freeport. Food is excellent there and they have a good meeting facility. Dinner at 6PM and meeting at 7PM.
Thank you!
Bobbi
