It is a hot and wet July so far – hopefully the rain will taper off for a while. I'm composing this letter from the president while enjoying the Crosley Automobile Club's annual national meet at the Fulton County Fairgrounds in Wauseon, Ohio. Jorn bought some wheels, tires, carburetor setup and a chrome valve cover for his 'barn-fresh' project. It has been 'barn fresh' for quite a number of years now, but it sure has accumulated a number of parts. Comfortable weather here – not too humid and a little on the warm side.
Our 2nd Cadet Cruise for this year is Wednesday, July 17th. Remember, due to a new club policy voted-in, if I have to cancel a cruise, it will be posted on our website and carcruises.com by 12:30 PM, on cruise day, and the cruise will be moved to the next week (Wednesday, July 24th) and our club meeting will then be on the rain cancellation date – in this case, Wednesday, July 17th. For the cruise on July 17, setup will be as always, starting at 2PM. We have door prizes but still need goody bag items, and we need setup help, gate help, parking help, a cold water manager and so forth. Parking is where we really need help because, with good weather, the folks come out and it gets crowded fast.
Saturday, July 20th is our trip to the Packard Museum and annual national Packard meet in Warren, Ohio. Two hour road trip – we'll leave the McDonald's Park and Ride at 9AM. You can tour the museum and enjoy the Packard classics on display – both indoors and outdoors. The 'meet' cars will be on the grounds (grass) of the Packard Music Hall adjacent to the Packard museum. We'll eat at a local restaurant of the group's choosing after the event and before heading back home.
Then the club meeting, Wednesday evening, July 24th at Cabin greens, and then Kalmar Motors Cruise the next evening, Thursday evening, July 25th. Kalmar setup will start at 2PM and the cruise will be from 4 to 8PM. Kalmar will supply dash plaques and some door prizes and we will supply music and some door prizes. Relay for Life will sell food.
Our club picnic will be Saturday, August 10th at Boyd and Patty Baker's farm in Boggsville Heights from 5PM to ? The club will supply the meat, drinks, buns and tableware. Boyd will provide the live, hot cooking skills. Please bring a covered dish to share with the group. Please let me know if you plan to attend and how many will be coming by August 2nd, so that we can have a head count for purchased food items.
Our August 21st Cadet Cruise is our charity cruise. We will choose a charity at our July club meeting on July 24th. If you have a charity you would like to have considered, please bring information to the meeting.
The June cruise at the Cadet was a huge success. We ran out of parking and out of goody bags, and we still had a great event.
The informal car cruise for the Kittanning Care Center was on Saturday, June 22. It was a hot day and we had 15 cars out. There was a nice writeup and picture in the Leader Times.
The Sunday, July 7th Keystone Kruisers cruise at the Worthington Firehall grounds was a great success, even under threatening skies. 111 cars were there and Kit-Han-Ne Car Club member Tom Higginson won the $500 drawing. Excellent food from the firemen and the winning 50/50 ($340) went to one of the kitchen firemen, Butch Griffith. This was an excellent event.
I will give more details on all other club events in coming letters.
Our next club meeting is Wednesday, July 24th, at the Cabin Greens Golf Course on Ford City Road. Dinner at 6PM, meeting at 7PM. Please try to attend – see you there.
