Our May cruise was cold, but not wet. We had 95 cars, and with the cold evening, people seemed to 'wrap it up early'. We need more help doing and running the cruises – setup, tear down, 50/50, gate, parking. Every member is a part of the club – please help. The Cadet cruises are an institution, as is George Morda and the Cadet – we need to maintain a high-quality event.
The reason for the early letter this month is that I must change an event date and wanted to get the information out to everyone prior to the earlier date in case you were planning to participate – I have to change The Damn Tour date – we will not be home in time to set up the June 14th planned trip, so scratch that, for now, pen it in for Sunday, July 19th. We'll have the details for the next club meeting, June 24th at the Cabin Greens dining room. The Damn Trip promises to be a good one, especially with the history of the Conemaugh project in connection with the railroad re-routing project.
Worthington Farmers' and Antique Car Parade, Tuesday, June 16th, 6:30PM.
2nd Cadet car cruise, Wednesday, June 17th, 4 to 8PM. Joe and Mary Ethel Miller's 1952 Buick Roadmaster coupe is the featured dash plaque car. Make sure you check out the new interior by Ross Grantz, Kiski Valley Upholstery.
Kit-Han-Ne Car Club meeting, Wednesday, June 24th, 6PM dinner, 7PM meeting at Cabin Greens Golf Course dining room.
The YMCA Camp Sherwin Erie trip will be June 28th with the Keystone Kruisers. This is the one where we leave early, have a great breakfast along the way, attend, and some of us help out, at the YMCA's annual cruise. Beautiful setting on the lake – and then an evening meal at Cracker Barrel, Meadeville, on the way back home. Contact me if you are interested in participating and I'll get you the departure time and place.
Ford City Summerfest, Sunday, July 5th, 2 to 6PM. Mark your calendar. Flyers are out and about – we put them in the May Cadet cruise goody bags.
Our Lincoln Highway Heritage Corridor (LHHC) trip will be Wednesday afternoon/evening, July 22nd. We will hold our club meeting there! More information to follow at the June meeting.
The Punxy Region AACA has a special Model T & Model A event at Silver Canoe Campground on Saturday, July 18th. Details are 9AM to 5PM, no street rods or modifieds, no entry fee, flea market, Model A rides, show field closes at noon. I guess there will be trophies. Carl – 724-422-4869.
August brings about two events that are top quality and not yet much-promoted - August 8th, the Pennsylvania Turnpike will be be celebrating the 75th anniversary of the Turnpike. There will be a parade of cars, on the Turnpike, to Sideling Hill plaza and a car show there, 10AM to 2PM. As well, there will be a parade from the east, to the same destination. The Schultzes and Jensens participated in the same event, 50th anniversary, 25 years ago and I can tell you that, to Jorn, nothing beats driving on the Turnpike for free (as frugal as he is) – we had a fantastic time and, saw cars we'd never seen before. At the 50th, they gave us pewter commemorative plaques (dishes) for the event – very nice gift.
And the other August event, very worthy of mention, is the DooWop show at Anchor Village, near Clarion, on August 30th. This is an excellent event, especially if you like to dance to the Doo Wop tunes – live show, meal, etc. - very reasonable – I think last year was $30/couple. The facility is owned by Burr Corbett and he stores vehicles there over winter and the other season, he has events there. It is an old, restored natural gas pump house made into an event hall – beautiful architecture, car show, lots of nice people. It will probably sell out early this year as last year was so good.
Mark your calendar for our third 2015 club meeting at Cabin Greens Dining Room, Wednesday, May 27th, 6PM dinner, 7PM meeting.
