On a sad note to start this letter, longtime member Morgan Smith passed away on Monday, June 12, 2017. We offer our condolences to the Smith family.
By now, you're ready to head out to some car cruises. Our second Cadet cruise is set for Wednesday, June 21st. Set up time will start at 2PM and the cruise officially opens at 4PM and runs to 8PM. Please remember goody bag items and come early if you can. Also remember our 'rain-on-cruise-day' rule – if rain, then we switch over to the club meeting at Cabin Greens and then have the cruise the following Wednesday on our normal meeting night. If we have rain, or a sure threat of rain, on cruise day, I'll make the call by noon and contact as many as I can. You may also call me – best to try the cell number below.
Worthington carnival week is the week of June 25th. Tuesday, June 27th, is the farmers' parade with cars included. Cash prizes will be awarded to winning tractors and cars. Cars are to assemble in the parking lot at the American Legion (next door to the ball fields) to get your entry form, paper plate number and dash plaque. Please start to assemble at 5:30PM for a parade start time of 6:30PM – bring your lawn chair and find some shade as we do registration, paper plates, dash plaques, etc. We'll have a registration table (hopefully also in the shade). This year, we'll also attempt a totally new concept – lining up in numerical order prior to driving in the parade. Imagine that.
The Ford City Summerfest cruise is Sunday, July 2nd from 2 to 6PM. We will work the gate and do the parking. Please wear your orange shirts and help where you can. Parking is the tough one.
Sunday, July 9th is the Keystone Kruisers car cruise from 4 to 8PM, rain or shine, at the Worthington West Franklin Township volunteer firehall grounds. Non-members participating in the event have a chance to win $500, but must be registered by 6PM to be eligible.
Wednesday, July 12th is the Lincoln Highway Supper Market event from 5 to 8PM. The event is at the Lincoln Highway Heritage Corridor museum and office grounds on US route 30 east of Ligonier. There will be 7 chefs with ala carte items for sale. You may bring your own wine, candleabra and chandeliers. We will leave the West Kittanning park and ride, by McDonald's, at 3PM. Please let me know if you plan to come along by July 5th – thank you. Old cars or new cars – your choice – they do not have 'preferred' parking for 'show' cars. It is all on grass with plenty of old, large shade trees. They'll also be offering tours of the museum.
Thursday, July 13th is the Kalmar Relay for Life cruise from 4 to 8PM. Setup will start at 2PM. Please come early if you can – we'll need the help.
Saturday, August 12th, is the Slickville Centennial Cruise in Slickville, PA. Noon to 3PM – food, fun, music and dash plaques. Imagine – a dash plaque from Slickville, PA – a sure collectors' item!
Third club meeting of the year – Wednesday, June 28th at Cabin Greens Golf Course. Dinner at 6PM, meeting at 7PM. See you there – please try to patronize the restaurant – the meeting room is free to the club.
