We’ve made it to May and our first cruise is on Wednesday the 18th. Hopefully the rain will give us a break and we can get the cruise season started with a great turnout. We'll start set-up between 2:30PM and 3PM, so please come early to help if you can. The trailer will be there between noon and 1PM as this is the first one of the season and we'll be a little rusty at set-up 'speed'. If you have a red Kit-Han-Ne shirt, please wear it and remember goody bag items.
The second Cadet Cruise will be Wednesday, June 15th. Don and Kathy Shaner's Thunderbird will be on that dash plaque. The dash plaques for July features Russ Clever's car, for August features Joe Miller's, and September's is Thad Szelc's car. Each of you please get digital pictures to Bill Johnson (firstname.lastname@example.org), or some other way, so that he can prepare artwork for the dash plaque maker.
The Kalmar Motors Cruise for Relay for Life is Saturday, July 16th, from 11AM to 3PM. Hopefully, last year's highway paving job has held up for more than one year so that we can get this cruise in without last year's paving headaches.
Our charity cruise for the September 21st date is C.A.M.P. - Community Action Mentoring Program.
John Shapiro, Editor, Cruisin' Times Magazine, states in this month's editorial that gasoline prices will not hurt cruises – that if cruisers have to give up something else, they'll still gas up and get to cruises. John states that cruises are for fun and to let your cruise car take you back in time when worries were almost non-existent. We'll track that theory at the Cadet this season – we're hoping for a great season.
Our club picnic this year will be at Boyd and Patty Baker's place on Saturday, August 20th. Beautiful country setting right by Birdsfoot Country Club in North buffalo Township.
We voted recently to have our dash plaques made by a new vendor – JnJ Graphix of the greater Kittanning area. Their website is www.JnJGraphix.com.
Remember to make your reservations for the Medieval Feast at the Riverside Inn for October 29th, 2011. It is $205 per couple – call 814-398-4645, ext. 3. Remember to tell them that you’re with the Kit-Han-Ne Car Club.
Our club trips are being planned. We hope to get to Altoona to the railroad museum, Horseshoe Curve, and Boyer Candies. Our over-nighter will be a stretch of the Lincoln Highway.
The fall banquet is Saturday, November 5th at the Kittanning Elks.
The Kittanning Crime Watch Cruise may be set for Saturday, July 9th – more news on that soon.
For the cruises this year, we’ll be selling glass-framed Cadet placemats from the 2008 Cruise Season for $10 each. The placemats were beautifully done with the Cadet Poor Boy, a '55 Chevy and a '58 Buick, and very nice color printing – a definite collector item for the garage wall.
Our next meeting, at Pizza “N” Stuff, 325 South Jefferson Street, Kittanning, will be Wednesday evening, May 25th. Dinner at 6 PM, meeting at 7 PM. At the last meeting, Bob Prunty guessed the mystery piece of car junk that Jorn brought in – a grill from a 1960 Ford Galaxie. We'll see what Jorn comes up with for the coming meeting...he's looking in the barn for a Chevy grill, but I didn't tell you!
