LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT – KIT-HAN-NE REGION OF THE AACA
Well, we’re into our autumn events, but first, very important news from the last club meeting of Wednesday, September 23rd. The membership moved to solve club dues collection problems by voting on and approving a motion to collect the 2010 local club dues BEFORE paying the 2010 national dues. This is important because we only have until November 15, 2009, to collect local dues in order to have the 2010 national dues paid by the end of 2009. To help in the process, we’ve enclosed a return mail envelope for the member to return 2010 local dues to the treasurer. Please take care of this right away so that you can maintain your local and national clubs membership.
By the time you receive this, our last cruise for the year will have come and gone. As I type, the weather is cold, blustery, and wet, but the weather channel says Wednesday will be cold and dry. This cruise is our Wednesday, September 30th cruise for HAVIN. This is one of our two charity events for the year and we needed to do it big for HAVIN. Larry and Jackie Rupp’s Mustang graces the HAVIN cruise dash plaque, and is it ever nice. Rusty Birch and Karen Connelly put together one of the nicest dash plaques of the year. At this cruise, the folks from HAVIN always have nice fall munchies and drinks - please support their efforts.
As has been discussed numerous times, the Kit-Han-Ne Region has met with Good Tire and the Kittanning Township Fire Company and has agreed to partner in a fund-raiser cruise for the fire company. The event will be the Cinco de Maio Cruise at the Kittanning Township Volunteer Firehall site on US 422 – that’s May 5, 2010. This is a typical Wednesday afternoon/evening cruise, as we’ve done at the Cadet for years, and it is two weeks off our normal Cadet schedule so that we do not flood the area with weekly competing cruises. The Fire Company will be the food source for this event. It will be a cooperative effort of Good Tire, Kittanning Township Volunteer Fire Company and the Kit-Han-Ne Car Club (Kit-Han-Ne Region AACA).
So, so far, our 2010 cruise season shapes up as follows: May 5 Kittanning Volunteer Fire Company, May 19 Cadet, June 16th Cadet, July 10 Kalmar Motors for HAVIN, July 21 Cadet, August 18 Cadet, September 15 Cadet, and September 29 Cadet for HAVIN. Additional Good Tire/Kittanning Township VFD cruises may be added at the 2 weeks offset schedule depending on how it all works out at the Cinco de Maio Cruise and any agreements to go forward.
Back to this Fall’s schedule – this can be found on our website which Bill Johnson maintains on a daily basis – more up-to-date that any paper we can produce: Saturday, October 17th – the overnighter trip to Cambridge Springs. If you’re thinking you might still want to go (8 couples going so far) then try to get in by calling the Inn at 814-398-4645. Details coming from Bud Glendening.
Saturday, October 24th – day trip to view Don Fezell’s car collection in Dubois. This is better than a car museum! Get up real early – this is a 7:30 AM departure from the Trader Horn parking lot! So far, this is a two-club trip – the Keystone Kruisers and the Kit-Han-Ne Car Club. Other clubs to be invited. Lunch will be at the Dubois Diner – the diner is a 1950’s treat. It is a modern building-type diner, but made up as a 50’s style diner. Piston rings are guess what?
Wednesday, October 28th – club meeting at Teresa’s Royle Allegheny. Dinner 6PM, meeting 7PM. Election of Officers night. Don’t worry about getting elected if you show up for the meeting, the slate already has volunteers. The slate is President – Bobbi Jensen, Vice President and Grillmaster – Boyd Baker, Treasurer – Donna Kovar, and Secretary – Mark Crissman.
Sunday, November 8th – road trip day to Tara, Kraynak’s Christmas Shop, and Daffin’s Candies, Sharon, PA area. We leave McDonald’s (Park and Ride) at 9AM. The Tara brunch, the highlight of the trip, is a feast - $20.95 adult, $16.95 senior, and under 12 at $12.95, all plus tax and gratuity.
Saturday, November 14th – Kit-Han-Ne Fall banquet at the Elks in Kittanning. We’ll need a head count by October 30th, so, if you’re going, please indicate so by some means and tell us how many. Cocktails 5:30 (cash bar), dinner 6:30. Turkey buffet $11.95, and children at $6. Family and friends are welcome – let’s fill the dining room! Mimi and George Morda will be our specially invited guests.
In closing, many of you are aware of the publicity that the Cadet has received in a national (okay, regional) magazine, the Cruisin Times Magazine, out of the Cleveland area. Kit-Han-Ne member Ernie Luke, a subscriber to the magazine, invited John Shapiro, editor, and his crew to come to a Cadet Cruise. Well, they did and were impressed. The cadet made the September Cruisin Times magazine and made it into several polls being conducted by the magazine. It is my opinion that George and Mimi Morda and the Cadet are overdue for this recognition and it is about time this came about.
So, we support the polls for the Cadet – there are 3 that the Cadet is eligible for – Top Ten Cruises Held Once A Month, Top Ten Best Burgers (Poorboy), and Top Ten Eateries. These polls are in the October Cruisin Times Magazine and must be submitted before October 15th. If you’d like to support the effort by completing the poll, just make contact and we’ll supply forms. The final tally results will be published in January, 2010 Cruisin Times Magazine.
