September 2011
With Lee moving in, we’re in for a lot of rain and cooler days ahead. Our August 17th cruise went well with 104 cars showing up. Jim Kelly, with his beautiful red & flamed ’50 Mercury cruiser, won the Doug Boyer Car Collection Participant’s trophy for the evening. At the second August cruise, Wednesday, August 31st, we again had over 100 cars show up. We did have about 5 minutes of light rain. At that cruise, the Doug Boyer Participant’s trophy went to Marianne & Ron Caruso’s original 1955 Chevy Bel Air convertible.
Our club picnic, this year, was at the Baker farm. Boyd and Patty went all out with wonderful steak sandwiches and a side dishes buffet line that went through the kitchen and on outside. Later we listened to oldies, sat by the bonfire, roasted hot dogs and made smores. We had a nice, informal car show in the Baker front yard. Thank you everyone for a great day!
We need to reschedule our trip to TIP Tool/O’Charley’s – we will pick a date at the Sept. club meeting.
Only 1 Cadet Cruise left for the season, and, if we have good weather, this one will be packed – Wednesday, September 21, 2011. The September cruise will have KDKA present with a tent with events & prizes and the cruise will benefit C.A.M.P. – Community Action Mentoring Program. CAMP will also have a tent set up. Setup for the cruise will be the same as in the recent past – we’ll start at 2 PM, but the trailer will be there a little earlier – please come and help if you can. We can also use goody bag items – the water bottles went over really well – thanks!
Worthington Swap Meet and Keystone Kruisers picnic at Russ and Shirley Collar’s – same day – Saturday, 9/24/11. Swap meet in the morning, picnic at 5 PM – call me for directions if you’d like to go.
The Lincoln Highway over-nighter trip is October 15th/16th (Saturday/Sunday). We have 10 rooms blocked (all that were available) at the Shawnee Motel on Route 30 at Schellsburg – 814-733-2828. You can make your reservations by calling the motel and letting them know that you are with the Kit-Han-Ne Car Club group to get our group rate of $52 – and please let me know that you are signed up as we need to give up any un-needed rooms one week before the event. We’ll go to Gravity Hill and a few other sites on Saturday and then have dinner at the Fireside Restaurant across the street from the motel. Sunday will include breakfast at the Fireside and then a stop and tour of the restored Bedford Springs Hotel. Please plan the dates in your calendar now and make your reservation call – the motel owners will be on vacation for two weeks – not sure which two weeks, so if you can’t get them, please call me – we need to keep track of rooms reserved.
You can still make your reservations for the Medieval Feast, Riverside Inn, October 29th. 1-800-956-9490. $205 per couple for your room, the show, the dinner and breakfast the next morning.
So far, the slate of officers for the 2012 elections looks a lot like the slate for 2011 – President – Bobbi Jensen, Vice President – Boyd Baker, Treasurer – Donna Kovar, and Secretary – Mark Crissman. If anyone is interested in any of the positions, please contact me at 724-664-1022 by September 21st. The pay and benefits are excellent – chuckle, chuckle. The slate of officers will be announced at the September 28th club meeting and we will conduct the election at the October club meeting.
Our Fall banquet is Saturday, November 5th at the Kittanning Elks. Cash bar from 5:30 to 6:30 with dinner at 6:30. Dinner will be $12.00 for adults and $6 for children under 8. The menu is turkey with stuffing, mashed potatoes, gravy, noodles, vegetable, rolls, butter, cole slaw, coffee, tea and cake for dessert. I need a headcount by October 21st so that the Elks can be prepared for us.
All local $10 Kit-Han-Ne club dues for 2012 are due to Donna Kovar by November 15th in order for your 2012 national AACA dues to be paid. Please get your $10 dues to Donna Kovar, 313 O’Connor Street, Ford City, PA 16226.
2012 Cadet Cruises schedule is as follows – all Wednesdays, mostly the third Wednesday – May 16th, June 20th, July 18th, August 15th and 29th, and September 19th. Remember – August is a two-cruise month.
